Wiley (NYSE: WLY), a knowledge company and global leader in research, publishing and knowledge solutions, and the Retraction Watch Database, a project of the Center for Scientific Integrity whose mission is to promote transparency and integrity in science and scientific publishing, today announced a new integration that aims to bolster research integrity. Edifix, a Wiley software application for reference lists, is now integrated with the Retraction Watch Database to alert users when citations to retracted content appear in authors’ submitted reference lists. With this information, users of the service can take appropriate action on the flagged citations.

“Wiley is heavily investing in publishing tools and solutions that bolster research integrity,” said Bruce Rosenblum, VP of Workflow and Content Solutions within Wiley Partner Solutions. “This integration represents one of the industry’s most extensive tools available for detecting citations to retracted works which will enable authors, editors and other stakeholders to act with greater clarity to protect the integrity of research content.”

“Our goal has always been to ensure that comprehensive and accurate retraction data inform every step of the research process,” said Ivan Oransky, executive director of the Center for Scientific Integrity and co-founder of Retraction Watch. “We’re thrilled that the integration of the Retraction Watch Database with Edifix means that users will know whether the work they’re citing has been retracted – and why.”

Edifix automates the crucial but tedious work of correcting, formatting, and linking reference lists, so authors and editors can focus on the many other demands of editing. It is embedded within ReX Submission, Wiley’s intelligent article submission system, which makes editorial operations more efficient with a submission workflow optimized to benefit both authors and publishers.

The integration with the Retraction Watch Database adds another source of retraction data beyond the self-reported data provided by publishers. This automated integrity check provides publishers with another powerful research integrity mechanism to leverage.
