NISO Members Elect New Leadership Team for 2019 to 2020 Term
The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) announces an expanded Board of Directors for the 2019 to 2020 term, which begins on July 1, 2019. Marian Hollingsworth, Director, Publisher Relations at the Web of Science Group (a Clarivate Analytics company) becomes Chair of NISO for the 2019 to 2020 term, after serving as Vice Chair over the past 12 months. Peter Simon, Vice President, Product Management, NewsBank, Inc., has been elected to serve as the incoming Vice Chair. He will transition into the role of Chair in the 2020 to 2021 term next July. Five additional Directors were elected to serve on an expanded Board of Directors. Early this year, the NISO Board approved a bylaws change expanding the number of seats on the Board from 13 to 15 to accommodate more voices resulting from the merger with the National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS) community.
“Addressing the diverse concerns of the information community by featuring the voices and expertise of recognized professionals is key in providing practical value to our members across the many subsets of the industry,” notes Marian Hollingsworth, who begins a term as NISO’s Chair. “By joining forces, we will strive to give libraries, publishers, content creators, and service providers the very best technical solutions to improve the way they exchange data.”
Peter Simon, who recently served as a past President of NFAIS’s Board, remains confident that bringing two of the world’s leading information community organizations together has enormous potential. The outcome will be a more effective and innovative approach in serving the needs of the industry community. He adds, “Each entity on its own offers its strengths and reputable practices, and we anticipate their combined efforts will lead to nothing but greatness across the vast network of information, technology, and academia.”
Todd Carpenter, Executive Director of NISO, said, “As we expand our membership community through this merger, we have a great opportunity to drive thought leadership and build upon those ideas to create greater efficiency in the information industry. Our shared future is about connecting ideas to better serve our members and maximize the impact of our community and its vital role in society today.”
As a result of the merger agreement and board election results, the following individuals will be serving as Directors on the NISO Board during the 2019 to 2020 term:
