Numerous Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation (IPLC) partner institutions* will provide three years of financial support for the Center for Open Science’s OSF Preprints, an open source platform and infrastructure that enables the facilitation and discovery of scholarship. COS notes that submission and consumption of preprints continues to grow with “~150,000 preprints hosted across all of the current and prior preprint communities, and 1.7 million views on preprint pages since September 2023.”
Administered by COS, the mission and vision of OSF Preprints to “broaden the transparency, accessibility, rigor, and reproducibility of research” aligns with IPLC’s mission to improve discovery of, and access to, information as well as the confederation’s strategic priorities of collaborative resource sharing and discovery, collection development, and leadership to shift the scholarly communication system towards more openness, rigor, and equity.
More specifically, supporting OSF Preprints is an action in sync with the IPLC Library Directors’ Letter to the Office of Science & Technology Policy: “As representatives of some of the most well-resourced libraries in the country, we are committed to using our resources to promote public access to all research, not just the research our scholars produce….Investing in infrastructure and services that are directly aligned with the research mission are critical to laying the foundation for a more open and equitable system of research that will result in better, faster answers to the problems of our time.”
