The early bird registration deadline for Open Research: A 2024 NISO Training Series is approaching! Sign up by Thursday, September 12 for the best rates for this eight-week course led by open research experts.

Most professionals engaged in supporting or conducting research have heard of various aspects of open science and scholarship. But how well do we understand the principles and practices underlying open research? And how can we apply knowledge of open research in our own institutional and organizational contexts? From pregistration and preprints to peer review and open access, this course will help you navigate the open research landscape in lively, information-packed sessions using the research cycle as a framework.

You will learn how all these concepts and practices are applied by researchers and supported by librarians, data managers, publishers, and other professionals. Each 90-minute session, to be held on Thursdays from 11:00 am–12:30 pm EDT (US/Canada), will combine presentation, demonstrations, hands-on exploration, and discussion. Participants will leave the course with knowledge and insights but also with ideas and inspiration to include open research perspectives and practices in their own roles and contexts.

We’re delighted to welcome course facilitators who are experts on the topic and known internationally for educating the academic community about open science and open access. After working for 15 years as a scholarly communications and open science librarian at Utrecht University Library, Bianca Kramer is now an independent consulting and research analyst at Sesame Open Science, focusing on open research and open infrastructure. Jeroen Bosman is a scholarly communications specialist and geoscience librarian at Utrecht University Library. He coordinates Utrecht University's participation in DIAMAS, the Horizon Europe funded international project on institutional publishing; he also has over 25 years teaching experience in academic information skills and has led dozens of Open Science workshops.
