NISO and DCMI to Partner on Summer Educational Webinar

August 25th event to focus on Dublin Core metadata and linked data

June 30, 2010 - Baltimore, MD - The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) are pleased to announce a new educational partnership, starting with an educational webinar on "Dublin Core: The Road from Metadata Formats to Linked Data," to be held Wednesday, August 25th, from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. (eastern time).
This event will allow the organizations to bring the audience up to date on trends in the use of Dublin Core - a key metadata standard for describing resources. Focusing on the dual role of Dublin Core as a format and as a Semantic Web vocabulary, speakers Makx Dekkers (Managing Director, DCMI) and Thomas Baker (Chief Information Officer, DCMI) will discuss new technologies for bridging the gap between traditional and linked data approaches, highlighting how old ideas such as embedded metadata have been reinvented with new web technologies and tools to solve practical problems of resource discovery and navigation.

"NISO Webinars have established themselves as a convenient and engaging way for working professionals to keep abreast of key issues in the area of information standards," declared Makx Dekkers. "DCMI is very pleased for the opportunity to present developments in the Dublin Core community to a wider audience."

Todd Carpenter, NISO Managing Director added, "We are delighted to be partnering with the DCMI on expanding educational opportunities for the community. Improving the understanding of metadata use and application in information distribution is critical to improving efficiencies in the supply chain from creator to library and end user. NISO and DCMI have long-established ties and we look forward to building on this relationship."
