NISO Working Group Connections Live: Resource Access in the 21st Century
RA21: Resource Access in the 21st Century
For several decades the predominant method for authorizing access to scholarly information resources has been through IP address recognition. Given today’s geographically dispersed workforce and variety of online connection options, institutional IP address recognition is no longer a satisfactory means for authorizing access to scholarly information resources.
RA21, a joint STM – NISO initiative has developed recommendations for the adoption and implementation of SAML-based federated authentication as an alternative to IP with the aim of providing a robust, scalable solution to providing remote access to scholarly resources.
The recommendations are now available for public comment as a draft, NISO Recommended Practices for Improved Access to Institutionally-Provided Information Resources.
This webinar will present and demonstrate the RA21 solution and associated best practice recommendations and what you need to know about implementation.
Confirmed Speakers: Todd Carpenter, Executive Director, NISO; Chris Shillum, Co-Chair of the RA21 Initiative, Vice President, Identity and Platform Strategy, Elsevier; Ralph Youngen, Co-Chair of the RA21 Initiative, and Director, Publishing Systems Integration, American Chemical Society.
