Survey: Generative AI in Web-Scale Library Discovery

Survey: Generative AI in Web-Scale Library Discovery

September 2024

Survey Open Until October 31, 2024

The NISO Open Discovery Initiative (ODI) aims at defining standards and/or best practices for the new generation of library discovery services that are based on indexed search. These discovery services are primarily based upon indexes derived from journals, ebooks and other electronic information of a scholarly nature. The content comes from a range of information providers and products--commercial, open access, institutional, etc.

As discovery services increasingly explore ways to include generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) into their products, the ODI Standing Committee is interested in your expectations and concerns about Generative AI in web-scale library discovery. This brief survey -- it will take about 10 minutes to complete -- will help us understand how discovery providers, content providers, and libraries are thinking about artificial intelligence and lay out areas for ODI’s work in the year(s) to come. Please answer from your own, personal, perspective. Please note: this survey is best taken on a desktop/laptop, not on a mobile device.

We will summarize results after the conclusion of the survey via the ODI website.
