Wiley Names Jessica Kowalski Executive Vice President and General Manager, Research

Wiley (NYSE: WLY), a global leader in authoritative content and research intelligence, today announced the appointment of Jessica Kowalski as Executive Vice President and General Manager, Research, effective May 11, 2026. She succeeds Jay Flynn, who shaped Wiley’s Research business during his tenure and is leaving the company. Kowalski joins Wiley from Microsoft, bringing more than two decades of experience leading knowledge, data, research publishing, and AI-enabled businesses at global scale, including senior operating roles at Amazon Web Services and RELX.
Over the past two years, Wiley has moved aggressively to execute on its ever-expanding AI and data analytics opportunity, partnering with some of the world's largest technology companies and building strategic relationships with leading AI innovators and corporate model builders to put Wiley's authoritative content at the center of responsible AI development. Kowalski's appointment advances the next phase of that strategy: translating Wiley's AI and content leadership into the products and business models that will define the future of research publishing and expand efforts to deliver content and insights to both current and new customers. The appointment follows Wiley's recent naming of Armughan Rafat as Chief AI and Data Services Officer and reflects the company's broader effort to build a leadership team equipped to lead the industry’s AI evolution.

New IOP Publishing tool detects duplicate peer reviews in push against reviewer fraud

IOP Publishing (IOPP) has developed a machine-learning powered tool to help detect duplicate peer review reports, addressing a growing threat to research integrity in scholarly publishing.
Duplicate peer reviews (where the same reviewer report is sent for multiple submissions) are problematic because they fail to provide a unique and critical assessment of a manuscript, making the peer review unreliable. The most egregious examples of this are “review mills”, organisations churning out fake reviews, often to inflate citations for a paying customer.

CCC (Copyright Clearance Center) Expands Annual Copyright License for Higher Education to Include Internal-Use AI Reuse Rights

CCC (Copyright Clearance Center), a pioneer in voluntary collective licensing, announced that, as of July 1, 2026, its Annual Copyright License for Higher Education (ACLHE) will include internal-use AI reuse rights, expanding the license to address the growing use of AI across higher education in the United States.
Copyrighted materials are the fuel for Artificial Intelligence systems, making copyright central to high-quality outcomes. According to a recent report from EDUCAUSE, “The Impact of AI on Work in Higher Education,” 47% of respondents cited violations of copyright and intellectual property when asked to identify the most urgent risks associated with using AI tools for work in higher education.

IU Libraries connects instructors with librarians to improve information literacy

Indiana University Libraries has offered information literacy grants since 2011 for instructors to collaborate with librarians for various IU courses.
Selected courses focus on guiding students to improve information literacy skills, such as creating citations, finding credible sources, and identifying misinformation.
In recent years, information and media literacy are increasingly popular topics as technology and social media exponentially advance. It is becoming harder to keep up with large intakes of information, and literacy rates are on the decline in the US.

Stony Brook University Libraries Joins JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services Charter Program

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with JSTOR through its Digital Stewardship Services charter program, positioning Stony Brook University Libraries as a leading collaborator in the development and implementation of emerging AI technologies for archives and special collections. As a charter participant, Stony Brook University Libraries will play an active role in shaping and providing feedback on JSTOR Seeklight, a new AI-powered tool designed to maximize the discoverability of special collections materials. Seeklight recently received an archival innovation award from the Society of American Archivists, recognizing its potential to transform access to archival collections and research materials.
The Stony Brook University Libraries JSTOR digital collection portal is currently in development and will showcase materials related to Stony Brook University history, regional history, special collections, and other research collections, further expanding access to and awareness of the unique collections held by Stony Brook University. Our aim is to highlight SBU’s distinctive collections frequently requested by researchers which are not available anywhere else on the globe. Once launched, these collections will be available openly on JSTOR.org.

EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and GetFTR announce a new partnership that connects open web discovery with access to full text on EBSCOhost, simplifying the journey from open web discovery to trusted library access.
Through the partnership, researchers at more than 70,000 institutions worldwide gain clearer visibility into full-text availability through their library, with more direct paths to content on EBSCOhost. When researchers discover supported content on the open web and in other discovery environments, GetFTR indicators show when full text is available and direct them to the article on EBSCOhost.
