Start a Conversation! Submit a Proposal for NISO Plus 2027 in Baltimore (February 15–17)

June 2026

Our Planning Committee may be working hard on September's virtual NISO Plus Global/Online conference, but a subcommittee is already looking ahead to our in-person meeting in Baltimore! We're opening the call for proposals early to allow everyone enough time to submit an idea for our February 15–17, 2027 meeting in Charm City.

NISO Plus brings together professionals from across the information community to explore challenges and how the community can address them. It’s a great opportunity to share ideas for solving problems or leading a discussion to brainstorm new solutions. We invite proposals addressing a broad range of topics:

  • Accessibility
  • AI in scholarly communications
  • Measuring AI usage
  • MCPs and chatbots for researchers
  • AI-generated metadata and provenance
  • AI transparency and disclosure
  • AI tools and use cases
  • Cross-institutional collaboration models
  • Digital preservation
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion in scholarly communications
  • Federated identity and access control systems
  • Licensing and copyright
  • Metadata and persistent identifiers
  • Open access models and business processes
  • Open data
  • Open scholarship infrastructure
  • Peer review
  • Political and financial pressures on scholarly communications and infrastructure
  • Research integrity
  • Search and discovery systems

Topics not listed here are welcome! We want to hear about what's important to you and your organization.

Keys to success

Proposals will be reviewed and assessed by the NISO Planning Committee. They will prioritize those proposals that

  1. Offer a variety of viewpoints, whether from a demographic, organizational, or geographical perspective. We discourage proposals featuring speakers from only one organization.
  2. Include multiple speakers. (It’s OK if your speakers are TBC, but let us know who you are thinking of inviting. You can add a name with "TBC" in parentheses or even a description,  e.g., "acquisitions librarian," "an STM journals publisher," etc.)
  3. Encourage interactivity, asking questions and promoting dialogue rather than simply presenting solutions. The purpose of NISO Plus is to focus on conversations about potential ideas to solve community problems.

Other Important Information

  • The standard parallel session block is 75 minutes, with 30 minutes dedicated to discussion.
  • NISO Plus Baltimore is an in-person event and we request that speakers join us on-site.

Please submit your proposal by September 10, 2026. All submissions will be reviewed by the NISO Plus 2026–27 Planning Committee, and we will inform everyone of their decision by October 5, 2026.
