Elizabeth Scarpelli

Publishing Director

Elizabeth Scarpelli is the publishing director for the University of Cincinnati Press and Cincinnati Library Publishing Services.  Her career includes over 30 years in higher ed and academic publishing with management positions at Prentice Hall, Baker & Taylor, Cambridge University Press, Rutgers University Press, and University of Cincinnati Press.  Her expertise in business development, supply chain management, Print on Demand, university press publishing, and open access publishing has allowed her to develop innovative authoring techniques which bring the author and reader closer together using open access digital capabilities to enhance traditional narrative and analog print. 

As the director of the fastest growing university press in the nation, in four years, Scarpelli started a press at the university of Cincinnati with a unique business model and developed imprint tracks for open access, digitally enhanced UC publications and traditionally sold books.  Her goal is to shrink the space between the author and the reader and maintain a rigorous publishing program while maintaining institutional mission alignment.  Within the industry, Scarpelli currently sits on the AUP Library Relations Task Force and the Library Publisher Coalition Research Committee.  At UC, she is co-chair of the Toward Open Monograph Review Committee, a member of the e-learning committee, the Executive Council for the University of Cincinnati Libraries, the Library Organizational Development Council and the Library Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.  In December 2020 she was awarded the University of Cincinnati Staff Excellence Award for her ability to influence and impact faculty scholarship through publishing, her commitment to the university and to the Next Lives Here philosophy.  She currently earning a master’s degree in higher education administration and sits on the college’s rapid response team.
