NISO Announces New Board Officers to Lead the Organization into 2011

Baltimore, MD - June 30, 2010 - The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) members have elected Bruce Heterick to serve as Vice Chair of the NISO Board of Directors for the 2010-2011 term that begins on July 1, 2010. Heterick is Vice President, Outreach & Participation Services for Portico and JSTOR and a current member of NISO's Board. He has spent over twenty years in the higher education and library communities, written and presented extensively on information management issues, and is active in the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) and EDUCAUSE in addition to NISO.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with the libraries, publishers, and information providers that have made NISO such a valuable organization," stated Heterick. "Given the speed of change that we are all dealing with, developing and implementing industry standards that are timely and relevant has never been more important."

Janice Fleming, Director of Business and Planning/PsycINFO, American Psychological Association, will transition from the current Vice Chair position to become the Chair of the NISO Board for the 2010-2011 term. Fleming has extensive experience in the publishing and indexing & abstracting businesses. Current Chair, Chuck Koscher, Director of Technology, CrossRef, will become Immediate Past Chair.

"NISO has more active development projects underway now than at any time in its history," said Fleming. "In addition, the scope of the projects is much broader than at times past, encompassing everything from physical delivery of library materials, OpenURL knowledge bases and metrics, authentication, and RFID to institutional identifiers, journal article markup, and supplemental journal materials. I'm honored to be able to lead the organization during a time of such growth and expansion."

A separate election will be held to fill Heterick's vacated Director's position. The following individuals will continue their terms on the NISO Board in 2010-2011:
