Taylor & Francis Announces Enhanced Model for Collaborative OA Books Funding Initiative, Pledge to Open

Taylor & Francis has launched the second year of Pledge to Open, its collaborative funding initiative for open access (OA) books, with additional benefits for pledging institutions. Following the success of the pilot phase, organizations are invited to support seven new book collections on key contemporary themes, including children’s health, AI, and migration.
Pledge to Open is an innovative diamond OA model, designed to support publication of books that are both free to read and free to publish for their authors. With each themed collection focused on a global issue, Pledge to Open maximizes the opportunity for important new books to reach a wide and diverse audience and drive real-world impact.
Project MUSE and USHMM Announce Landmark Initiative

Project MUSE, a division of Johns Hopkins University Press, and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum are proud to announce a landmark initiative to host the most comprehensive scholarly resource on Nazi persecutory sites, The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos, 1933-1945 (ECG), as a new open access, fully searchable, digital publication. Hosting the ECG on the Project MUSE platform will allow users to dynamically engage with this empirically grounded prodigious resource of thousands of camps, ghettos, and other sites of persecution operated by the Nazis and their allies.
Project MUSE and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum are committed to broadening access to and increasing engagement with this vital scholarship. This new digital publication will be an invaluable resource for wide-ranging audiences including scholars, researchers, Holocaust survivors and their descendents, digital humanists, educators, students, librarians, archivists, nonprofits, and the general public. Users will gain straightforward entrance to extensive bibliographic citations comprising research in more than a dozen languages and varied source bases including material in hundreds of archival collections, survivor and eyewitness testimonies, memoirs, diaries, memory books, and up-to-date scholarship.

Essays, which are predominantly solicited by our Editors, are compelling, opinion-based pieces, focused on the most urgent and impactful topics facing our journals’ fields. They fulfill a community need for an article type that can, in particular, address concerns related to policy implications of regional or intersectional interest.

The updated page includes content and tools from UpToDate®, the clinical decision support (CDS) resource, Lippincott NursingCenter®, the knowledge portal for nurses, and the Ovid® medical research platform. These resources are available to doctors, nurses, frontline healthcare workers, and researchers, as well as to the public.

Elsevier provides free access to research and clinical resources via Mpox Information Center to accelerate fight against viral disease

For the benefit of healthcare professionals, researchers and the public in the fight against mpox, Elsevier, a global leader in scientific information and analytics, has today relaunched its Mpox Information Center.
In response to the World Health Organization (WHO) recently declaring mpox a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), Elsevier’s Mpox Information Center provides free access to all mpox-related information across Elsevier’s journals, medical books and clinical resources. It will be continuously updated with the latest research and clinical information on the viral disease and its treatment. Over 1,700 mpox-related research articles and book chapters published by Elsevier are now freely available on ScienceDirect.

Maine State Library Selects EBSCO Information Services to Provide Database Resources Statewide

Maine State Library has selected EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) to provide a collection of high-quality online research databases and digital resources accessible to all Maine residents, schools, public libraries, community colleges, universities and hospital libraries. The resources available through EBSCO will facilitate lifelong learning and support students from early education to post-graduate studies.
The multi-year agreement between Maine State Library and EBSCO provides access to dozens of full text research databases which includes a vast collection of leading journals and reference materials covering a wide range of research needs. The research and reference sources will provide academic, business, K-12, and general interest materials to 32 academic institutions, more than 600 schools, 255 public libraries and dozens of special libraries including hospitals. EBSCO resources provide cutting-edge technology and access to full-text journals, magazines, newspapers, e-books, career-related resources and readers’ advisory from some of EBSCO’s distinguished resources including Academic Search™ Complete and Business Source® Complete, MasterFILE™ Complete, NoveList® Plus and LearningExpress Library™ Complete. Residents of Maine will access the resources through Digital Maine Library.

With the pace of technological change and the range of options before us all, there are no primrose paths these days. It seems that every decision is full of complexities and contradictory interests. Although that presents challenges, ITHAKA is an organization that believes in learning together with our community to navigate them. We believe that by sharing insights, experiences, and expertise, we can find better ways to help libraries, publishers, and educators adapt and thrive in this evolving landscape.
Over the course of the last year, there have been a number of examples where your guidance has made a real difference. Together, we have: developed a Full Access Model to make more content available to JSTOR participating institutions; interviewed librarians to better understand the challenges they face managing their analog and digital collections; engaged Ithaka S+R research cohorts; worked with archives on our Portico preservation pilots; and talked with JSTOR publishers about their views on AI. We appreciate your engagement, feedback, and candor as we continue our work on these and other initiatives to make knowledge and education more accessible and useful.
