Open research, incentivising change, and underpinning infrastructure: A UK perspective

Open research, incentivising change, and underpinning infrastructure: A UK perspective

October 2024

Rachel Bruce, Head of Open Research at UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), delivered the NISO Plus Global/Online opening keynote, “Open research, incentivising change, and underpinning infrastructure: A UK perspective,” on September 17. Outlining UKRI’s vision for a more collaborative, transparent research environment, she notes that progress has been made over the last decade, but that more work is needed, especially in creating better incentives for researchers to engage in open research and developing more robust digital infrastructure for open research. Reflecting the meeting goal of highlighting global perspectives from the information community, Rachel’s talk outlines initiatives undertaken not just at UKRI, the UK’s largest funder of research, but also across the UK and Europe, to meet these goals. Among these projects are efforts (including the promotion of narrative cvs) to change research assessment as well as to develop metadata that supports open research.
